Fall in Fonda
The wonderful weather this weekend was the perfect excuse to head out to the Mohawk Valley in search of foliage pictures. I especially wanted to get some photographs of Fonda for the Fonda book I hope to publish next Spring. Interestingly, the foliage was spotty – past in some places, yet to arrive in others.
One of the first places we passed as we approached Fonda was Conbeer’s farm. Once we got into town I parked and headed down to the “Lampost Sidewalk” to get a picture of it in Fall colors. I have a Summer scene taken in the same place and hope to also get it in snow. Of course, before I could take any pictures I had to move, as best I could, the trash barrels that always seem to be in the middle of that sidewalk. I will be “photoshopping” them out of my final picture but for the time being I just laid them down or pushed them aside.
Here are some other pictures of the street, the blocks along Route 5, and a passing train -
Before leaving Fonda we stopped in to visit Jennifer Lang who lives in the historic Butler House. She was gracious, as ever, and let me take pictures of the house again. This is the ancestral home of Walter Butler and John Butler who are known for the raids they conducted on the residents of Cherry Valley. I am fascinated by the fact that this wood framed house still stands when the Butlers burned out so many folks during the Revolutionary War. Seems like at least one of them might have retaliated by burning his home…
I have to admit though, the setting is incredibly peaceful. During this colorful season, it is also incredibly beautiful.
